Project Budgeting Basics Workshop - Tuesday 17 September 2019

The Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR) is a federally-funded Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE). Established in 2012, MEOPAR funds research, trains highly-qualified personnel, develops strategic partnerships, and works to support knowledge mobilization in marine challenges and opportunities for the benefit of the Canadian economy and society. Introduction to Leadership in Public Health - UBC SPPH 526
Until April 2018, this course was a mandatory element of UBC's Master of Public Health (MPH) program. I delivered the course elements about project management, including principles and elements of project management, development of a project charter, and team dynamics. The course is offered in both a liver and a distributed learning format, with a combination of in-class and online learning modalities.

CV to resume clinic - Making the Leap from Academia - Wednesday, 05 April 2017
This 90-minute session aims to facilitate the transition of a standard academic curriculum vitae into a 2-page resume suitable for job applications outside of academia. Participants will learn about the differences between CVs and resumes, and translating their current skill set from their academic work into language appropriate for industry, management or other non-academic-track roles. Other topics include using LinkedIn, networking, developing a cover letter, and the basic recruitment process from both within a hiring group and from the candidate's perspective.
This session in April will be delivered jointly with a colleague at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute.

Project Management Intensive (2 days) - 26 and 27 October 2016
The two-day Project Management 1 workshop covers scope and time management concepts and tools, as well as team management, communication, risk management and leadership. The workshop includes facilitation of teams developing projects over the 2 days. At the end of the workshop, participants have been introduced to the benefits of defining and managing project scope to maximize the potential to achieve project goals; a step-by-step approach to establishing a schedule for project activities; an overview of basic communication management; a step-by-step approach to establishing a schedule for project activities; an overview of basic communication management; project management terminology (milestones, objectives, Gantt chart); essential leadership lessons and team management.

Introductory Project Management Intensive - Tuesday May 17, 2016
This intensive facilitated workshop covered project initiation and planning, with an emphasis on project scope, time, cost and risk management. Participants worked in small teams (4-6 people per team) to develop small projects, such as conference/event planning, renovation projects, website development, program launch and trip planning. Starting with strategic question, through scope planning, stakeholder identification, schedule construction, and budget development, teams completed project plans that could be launched by the end of the day. This workshop is highly interactive, and aimed to enable participants to put concepts into practice quickly and effectively.
